The 6th Grade Thinks (and Creates) Out-of-the-Box
This past week the Sixth Grade Creative Arts classes began exploring two different concepts: Out-of-the-Box Thinking and Brainstorming. These terms were first presented to the students as additions to their C.A.C. Vocabulary words/phrases. Students were asked to write down (and then share) what they thought each of these terms meant.
Then, the students were asked to look up each of the concepts (a standard C.A.C. homework practice) in the dictionary and/or internet. The following day, after sharing the different and similar definitions they found, students broke into small groups to brainstorm how one could go about thinking out of the box. Then each student was presented with an empty box - a Chinese take-out container - and asked to think about ways they might like to decorate their box as a first step to a three-part project. Below, and in the following post, are photos of the students working on their boxes the following day (Thursday, September 8).
