January 3, 2011
Dear 6th Grade Parents,
We hope that you all enjoyed the holiday break and we wish you a happy new year!
We wanted to take the beginning of this New Year and new semester as an opportunity to start off on the same page and to begin preparing our students for their upcoming 7th grade year (just eight months away!).
In an attempt to help our students take responsibility and advocate for themselves, homeroom teachers will no longer be leaving each class’ assignments on the white board all day. Students will need to write down their assignments after each class period. This is to help prepare them for next year when they will not only be switching class periods, but also classrooms. Students may check the blogs each night to make sure they wrote their assignments down correctly and/or get any information they missed during class time.
It is also essential that students check the blog and/or contact a fellow classmate when they miss classes, and extremely important that they be sure to check in with their teacher(s) to find out what work they need to make up. A visit to the Faculty House the morning of the student’s return to school would be a very good idea. If a student is out for more than one day, or is too ill to email his/her teachers to check in, we would greatly appreciate a parent check-in via email.
Here are each of our contacts:

If your student does not bring a water bottle to school daily or keep one at school, we would greatly appreciate it if you would send one with your student. It helps to maintain the flow of our classes when students don’t have to leave class to get a drink of water from the fountain.
We have some big events coming up and thought we would alert you to them now so that you can mark your calendars:
Thursday, January 13: All-Class field trip to Southwest Shakespeare in Mesa to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream. *More information & Permission Trip Slips will be sent home Wednesday, January 5.
